A Letter from CAPPS Executive Director – Safety Protocols for 37th Annual Conference
California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools
Dear Attendee,
We are very excited that you will be attending the CAPPS 37th Annual Conference at the lovely Hyatt Regency La Jolla in San Diego. We are committed to providing the safest and at the same time most welcoming environment possible.
Hyatt Regency La Jolla Masking Policy
Masks are not required for those who have been vaccinated. This is in accord with County guidelines; however, the County recommends that vaccinated persons mask indoors.
Masks are required at all times for those who are not vaccinated. At the time of this letter, masking is based on the honor system and no proof of vaccination is required.
CAPPS Safety Protocols
CAPPS will be providing face masks, hand sanitizers, and wrist bands.
Wrist Bands: RED=Stop; Yellow=Caution; Green=Go
The red means no hugging or handshakes and please keep your distance. This is the strictest band with no physical interaction sought by the wearer. Waving is good for these folks.
The yellow band is a middle ground band with fist and elbow bumping allowed, hugging is not encouraged, and some distancing is a good thing.
The green band is for those who wish to hug friends and colleagues and are ok with close contact in speaking with other attendees.
County of San Diego Guidance
All individuals are still required to wear masks when using public transportation and while at the airport.
The CAPPS Memorial Scholarship Trolley Train Ride will cover parts of San Diego City which does require masking for everyone, regardless of vaccination status.
Hyatt Regency La Jolla Guidance on Food, Room Service, Housekeeping
Food: The Hotel is offering a modified buffet-style service for CAPPS functions. The staff attendants at the buffet stations will use plexiglass dividers to create a barrier between the attendees and the food servers. Plated lunches will be covered, utensils will be prepackaged, desserts will be individually wrapped.
Cleaning & Sanitization: The Hotel conducts regular—in many cases hourly—cleaning and sanitization of frequently touched surfaces and high-traffic guest and colleague areas such as elevators and elevator buttons, and restrooms, as well as the surfaces and equipment in gyms and spas. Cleaning and sanitization include the use of hospital-grade disinfectants as well as exploring and testing the use of electrostatic sprayers. The Hyatt is also implementing enhanced cleaning protocols for guest rooms, including the removal of high-touch items, and minimizing the number of times our hotel teams enter guest rooms. Guests can indicate their housekeeping preferences upon check-in or anytime during their stay.
Knock & Go Room Service: To promote safety for our guests and colleagues, all room service orders will be delivered to the door, unless otherwise indicated by the hotel. To minimize contact, our colleagues will knock on your door or ring your doorbell to notify you upon the delivery of your order. Grab-and-go options may be available.
Food Safety Protocols: The Hyatt Regency is implementing precautionary measures starting with food preparation to set-up and service, and enhancing food safety and hygiene protocols for restaurants, room service, and group meetings and events. The Hyatt frequently disinfects kitchen surfaces, and colleagues are wearing masks and gloves when plating and serving made-to-order dishes. We have temporarily shifted many restaurants with a buffet offering to à-la-carte menu and made-to-order options.
We want to assure you that we are in constant communication with the Hotel and are monitoring any relevant statements concerning Covid coming from the County.
We are committed to making this a fun and safe event for all. If requirements change, we will let you know. We look forward to seeing you “live” at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla!
Regards,
Robert Johnson
CAPPS Executive Director
