Renewal Fee Postponement for Licensees Impacted by Los Angeles Fires
On January 29, 2025, Governor Gavin Newsom issued Executive Order N-15-25, postponing for one year renewal application fees for institutions with approvals to operate that expire between January 1, 2025 and June 30, 2025, and whose address is within zip codes impacted by the Los Angeles fires. The Department of Consumer Affairs notice includes a list of included zip codes and answers to frequently asked questions. Questions about what this means for your institution may be directed to licensing@dca.ca.gov. Visit DCA’s Disaster Help Center for additional information and resources for Californians impacted by the Los Angeles Fires.
New Data System Coming Soon
The Bureau is preparing to transition to a new data system in early 2025, known as Connect. After the transition, institutions will be able to perform certain functions online, including viewing and paying annual fee invoices, submitting quarterly STRF Assessment Reports, and reviewing your institution’s details to ensure that Bureau records are up to date. Before the transition, institutions will be emailed instructions on how to use the portal. Bureau staff are reaching out to institutional representatives to ensure their contact information is up to date to aid in a smooth transition. Please be on the lookout for a call from our team.
New Rules on School Closures
Effective January 1, 2025, regulations regarding school and program closures have been updated. The new rules add clarity regarding the documentation institutions are required to submit to the Bureau in case of institutional closures as well as the notices that must be provided to students. The rules also outline a new process through which the Bureau may select a closure date for an institution if it believes the institution has closed without notifying the Bureau. Update from the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation
The California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) recently finalized new regulations requiring providers of postsecondary education financing to register and submit data to DFPI. Providers subject to registration requirements must file an application by February 15, 2025. Interested parties are encouraged to review DFPI’s Information for New Registrants. Note that the Bureau cannot answer any questions about DFPI regulations or requirements.
Upcoming Advisory Committee Meeting
The next Advisory Committee Meeting is scheduled virtually for Wednesday, February 26, 2025. The agenda will include reports from each of the Bureau’s programs including the Licensing Unit, the Student Tuition Recovery Fund, and the Compliance Unit as well as updates on the Bureau’s regulatory efforts and priorities.
