Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing Students Administer Covid-19 Vaccines at New Vaccination Superstation in Chula Vista

Partnership with Sharp Hospital Underscores College’s Commitment to Doing its Part to Help Bring Pandemic to an End

CHULA VISTA, Calif.—On Thursday, January 21, students from the Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing at Glendale Career College (GCC) helped give Covid-19 vaccines to more than 1,800 individuals at a new vaccination superstation at the old Sears building in Chula Vista, California. Managed in cooperation by Sharp HealthCare, the city of Chula Vista, and San Diego County, the superstation is the second such site of its kind in the region.

GCC President Mitchell Fuerst and Chief Operating Officer Beylor Meza also volunteered at the vaccination site Thursday. “It was extraordinary to see our nursing students getting vaccines to those who are most vulnerable in our communities,” Fuerst shared. “We are so proud of the way they have continued to rise to the challenge during these unprecedented times.”

Sharp Hospital CEO Scott Evans served as the on-site manager in Chula Vista on Thursday. Evans, an alumnus of GCC’s sister school, North-West College, explained that the site is just beginning to increase its vaccination capacity.

“Right now we are scaling it to be able to deliver 5,000 vaccines on any given day,” Evans said. “And we really do believe we can scale up higher than that. We designed this to accommodate an even higher capacity. We will start today with 1,800 vaccines being given.”

Students from the College will continue to help at the Chula Vista site as vaccination efforts continue to ramp up to serve the San Diego County community.

“We are grateful to be part of this massive undertaking to roll out the Covid-19 vaccine,” Fuerst shared. “And we are committed to doing everything we can to bring this pandemic to a close.”
